Officials say there was no hazard to public after glass panel broke in walkway

A scary view of London simply acquired barely scarier.
At 138 toes above town’s River Thames, the view from the newly opened glass walkway at Tower Bridge was already sufficient to generate excessive nervousness.
Then, final Friday, somebody dropped a beer bottle and the glass shattered.
The excellent news, say Tower Bridge officers, is that the breakage solely affected a “sacrificial” panel masking thicker glass beneath and there was no threat to guests.
Two days after the incident occurred at a personal occasion, the glass had been repaired.
The attraction remained open as regular.
Witness Peter Gordon tweeted a picture of the damaged glass, which was reportedly made worse by somebody strolling throughout in pair of stiletto heels.
“A sacrificial layer of glass on the new West Walkway at Tower Bridge Exhibition shattered on Friday evening, when an empty beer bottle fell from a tray being carried by a member of the catering team during an event,” a press release from Tower Bridge mentioned.
“The floor was immediately inspected and covered to protect guests from glass splinters.”
It mentioned engineers had been referred to as within the following morning and changed the glass panel inside 24 hours.
“The new glass ground has 4 layers of glass with the sacrificial layer on high of that – that is put in in order that it may be changed whether it is scratched or broken.
