The voting for the city native body elections is being held in a single section. In October 2016, the elections have been scheduled however have been postponed within the wake of the Madras High Court’s route. Subsequently, a host of developments, political and administrative, contributed to the delay.
The voting started at 7 am and can finish at 6 pm.
According to the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission (TNSEC), voters having COVID-19 signs and people who have been contaminated might be allowed to vote between 5 pm to six pm.
There are 57,778 candidates contesting for 12,607 posts. A complete of 31,150 polling cubicles are there and practically lakh police personnel have been deployed for safety.

There are 5,960 delicate cubicles in at present’s election.

More than 2.79 crore residents, together with 1.42 crore ladies, 1.37 crore males and over 4,300 from the third gender, are eligible to vote.
Major political events, together with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, Naam Tamilar Katchi, Pattali Makkal Katchi, Makkal Needhi Maiam and Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazagam, are collaborating within the polls for 21 firms, 138 municipalities and 490 city panchayats.
The counting of votes will happen on February 22.
