Opel to hire temporary workers at German plant amid Omicron absences – Wirtschaftswoche

BERLIN : Opel plans on hiring a number of hundred temporary workers to assist ship its new Astra mannequin, a spokesperson instructed German paper Wirtschaftswoche on Thursday, partially to compensate for workers off sick with COVID-19 amid the unfold of the Omicron variant.

The carmaker, which is owned by Stellantis and operates three crops in Germany, reduce 2,100 positions at the agency between January 2020 and 2022 by permitting contracts to run out and never re-hiring.

The temporary workers had been now wanted at Opel’s important plant in Russelsheim to help in ramping up manufacturing of the brand new Astra L, the carmaker instructed Wirtschaftswoche, supply of which started in January this 12 months.
