Two men propped up a dead man’s body and brought it to a post office to try and collect his pension

Two men propped up a corpse and brought it into a post office in Carlow, Ireland, in an try to collect the dead man’s pension, in accordance to Irish media stories.

Gardaí, Ireland’s police pressure, launched an investigation after staff on the post office turned suspicious and known as authorities on Friday. No cash was given to the men, who’re believed to have recognized the deceased personally, the Irish Independent reported.

According to The Irish Times, the “Weekend at Bernie’s”-like incident occurred after a man initially got here into the post office alone to collect the pension and was advised by workers that the pension recipient wanted to be current.

The man left and returned shortly after with one other man in addition to the body. A girl who lives close to the post office advised the Independent her daughter witnessed the men carrying the body into the constructing.

“She was leaving my house at the time and said the man looked unwell as his feet were dragging the ground,” the girl, who didn’t need to be named, advised the outlet.

After others turned suspicious, the 2 men fled the scene, leaving the body behind.

Emergency providers and gardaí responded to the scene. The man, who has been recognized as a native resident in his 60s named Peadar Doyle, was later declared dead, The Times reported. His dwelling has been declared a crime scene.

Local Councillor Fergal Browne advised the outlet the incident was “shocking and very upsetting for everyone locally,” particularly for the workers on the post office. He additionally stated the deceased man was a “decent guy, very well regarded and liked and caused no offense to anybody.”
